Rebates and Tax Credits

So, what are you eligible for?

There are a few different rebates available to you, but the amount you can receive depends entirely on your household income.

By upgrading your HVAC system or improving your energy efficiency through home improvements (such as insulation, ventilation, electrical wiring, or your electrical panel), you can receive a tax credit of up to $1,200 and instant rebates of up to $14,000.

If you aren’t ready to upgrade but reduce the amount of energy you use, you can receive up to $8,000 in rebates.

Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Credit

Qualifications:

 Must owe taxes and purchase qualifying energy-efficiency appliances to be eligible. 

Low-Income Households (less than 80% of the area's median income):

Receive a maximum of $1200 in tax credits, equaling approximately 30% of your energy-efficiency improvement costs up to:

• $600 for qualified air conditioners and heaters
• $2000 for qualified heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and boilers (the $1200 can be exceeded in this instance)

Mid-Income Households (between 80% and 150% of the area's median income):

Receive a maximum of $1200 in tax credits, equaling approximately 30% of your energy-efficiency improvement costs up to:

• $600 for qualified air conditioners and heaters
• $2000 for qualified heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and boilers (the $1200 can be exceeded in this instance)

High-Income Households (over 150% of the area's median income):

Receive a maximum of $1200 in tax credits, equaling approximately 30% of your energy-efficiency improvement costs up to:

• $600 for qualified air conditioners and heaters
• $2000 for qualified heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and boilers (the $1200 can be exceeded in this instance)

High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Act (HEEHRA)  

Qualifications:  

Must purchase qualifying energy-efficiency improvements to be eligible. You can receive a maximum of $14,000 in instant rebates. 

Low-Income Households (less than 80% of the area's median income):

Receive an instant rebate for 100% of project costs up to:

• $8000 for heat pumps
• $1750 for a heat pump water heater
• $4000 for an upgraded breaker box
• $2500 for upgraded electrical wiring
• $1600 for insulation ventilation, and sealing

Mid-Income Households (between 80% and 150% of the area's median income):

Receive an instant rebate for 50% of project costs up to:

• $8000 for heat pumps
• $1750 for a heat pump water heater
• $4000 for an upgraded breaker box
• $2500 for upgraded electrical wiring
• $1600 for insulation ventilation, and sealing

High-Income Households (over 150% of the area's median income):  

Not eligible

Home Rebate Program  

Qualifications:  

Must cut your energy usage by at least 20% to be eligible.

Low-Income Households (less than 80% of the area's median income): 

• $4000 for cutting your energy by 20%
• $8000 for cutting your energy by 35%

Mid-Income Households (between 80% and 150% of the area's median income):

Receive an instant rebate of up to:

• $2000 for cutting your energy by 20%
• $4000 for cutting your energy by 35%

High-Income Households (over 150% of the area's median income):

Receive an instant rebate of up to:

• $2000 for cutting your energy by 20%
• $4000 for cutting your energy by 35%
